What is Filling?

Filling is a procedure used to correct gaps or deformities in body tissues for aesthetic and medical purposes. It is usually applied to the face, especially in areas such as the lips, cheeks and forehead. Fillers are injected under the skin to add volume, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and make the skin look younger and fuller.

How is Filler Done?

The filling procedure usually consists of several steps. First, the areas to be filled are determined with the patient and it is decided which filler will be used. Local anesthesia is applied before the procedure, ensuring that the procedure is painless. The selected filler is injected under the skin with the help of a thin needle or cannula. The duration of the procedure usually varies between 15-30 minutes. After the injection, necessary arrangements are made to ensure that the filler is placed correctly and a smooth appearance is obtained.

Filling Types and Usage Areas

The most commonly used fillers are hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid and fat injections. Hyaluronic acid fillers moisturize the skin and add volume. They are generally preferred for lip augmentation and removal of fine wrinkles. Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are suitable for deep wrinkles and volume loss. Poly-L-lactic acid fillers provide long-term results by increasing the skin’s collagen production. Fat injections, on the other hand, offer a natural and long-term solution due to the use of fat cells taken from the patient’s own body.

Post-Filler Care and Considerations

After the filling procedure, mild swelling, redness or bruising may occur in the injection area. These side effects usually resolve spontaneously within a few days. Applying a cold compress for the first 24 hours can reduce swelling and discomfort. In addition, painkillers recommended by the doctor can be used in case of mild pain or discomfort. Avoiding heavy exercise and lying face down for the first few days also helps the filling to settle. Regular medical check-ups are important to monitor the effect of the filling and to perform additional procedures if necessary.

Benefits and Effect of Filling

Filling procedures provide fast and visible results. They are preferred because they are minimally invasive procedures that do not require surgical intervention. Depending on the filler used, the effect lasts for a long time. Fillers, specially designed to achieve a natural look, offer an aesthetically younger and fresher appearance.

What is the Difference Between Fillers and Botox?

Fillers and Botox are both procedures used for aesthetic purposes, but they serve different purposes and are applied in different ways. Fillers are used to add volume under the skin and are ideal for filling wrinkles and plumping the lips. Botox, on the other hand, reduces the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily stopping muscle movements. Botox is usually used for wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes, while fillers can be used to add volume in many areas of the face.
