What is a Moustache Transplant?

Moustache transplantation is a similar procedure to hair transplantation. It is the process of taking hair follicles from an area of the body (usually the nape or behind the ears) and transplanting them into the mustache area. This method aims to achieve a natural appearance in the mustache area and allows the person to have a mustache with the desired density.

Why Is Mustache Transplantation Performed?

Mustache transplantation can be performed for various reasons:

Genetic Factors: For people who genetically have sparse or no hair growth in the mustache area.
Trauma or Burn Scars: For people who experience mustache loss due to trauma, burn scars or surgery scars on the face.
Aesthetic Preferences: For people who want a fuller and more shaped mustache.
Hormonal Imbalances: For people who do not grow hair in the mustache area due to hormonal imbalances.

How Is Mustache Transplantation Done?

Consulting and Planning
The first step is for the patient to consult a specialist. During this consultation, the patient’s expectations, mustache shape and density are determined. The specialist evaluates the patient’s hair loss history and general health status.

Root Extraction from the Donor Area
Hair follicles for mustache transplantation are usually taken from the nape or behind the ears. The hair in this area is genetically predisposed not to fall out. Hair follicles are extracted using the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. In this method, individual hair follicles are extracted with the help of a micro motor.

Root Transplantation in Mustache Area
The hair follicles are transplanted to the mustache area. During this procedure, local anesthesia is used and small channels are opened in the area where the follicles will be placed. The hair follicles are placed in a natural growth direction and angle.

Care After Mustache Transplant

First Week
During the first week, contact with the mustache area should be avoided. Face washing should be done carefully.

Swelling and Redness:
Cold compresses can be applied to reduce swelling and redness.

Medication Use:
Antibiotics and painkillers recommended by the doctor should be used regularly.

Things to Avoid:
Avoid heavy exercise, saunas and steam baths for the first few weeks.

Sleeping Position:
Sleeping in a position where the head is elevated can help reduce swelling.
